Pirate Apes

The Rum Club

Rum was granted per Pirate Ape held — not per wallet. Every Ape you held gave you the option to buy a Rum token, and you chose which portion to buy. Burn one at the Tavern and your ape drinks it.

Rum Tankard

Rum Tankard

471 still held

Mutates an ape and leaves it in your wallet.

Toxic Tankard

Toxic Tankard

46 still held

Burns the Pirate Ape and returns a Sea Mutant in its place. Never sold: all 127 were traded one-for-one against a Rum Tankard, over three days in August 2022.

Rum Bottle

Rum Bottle

271 still held

Same effect as the Tankard. Your ape stays yours.

Rum Barrel

Rum Barrel drunk dry

0 left · all 11 consumed

The legendary portion. Every last one of the eleven Barrels has already been drunk — thirsty pirates, the lot of them. None will ever be minted again.

No Longer Valid rum token

IRL Rum is retired. The real-world rum programme — converting IRL Rum Tokens back into bottles and ordering shipments — is no longer running. Those tokens now read "No Longer Valid" on-chain and cannot be used to mutate.

The Ledger

Every barrel accounted for. Every figure below was read straight off Ethereum mainnet — mint and burn logs, token by token — and every row reconciles to what the contracts report today. Nothing here is an estimate. The figures that still move — rum in wallets, Sea Mutants minted — are read from the contracts on load.

2,498Sea Mutants brewed One portion of rum, one mutant. Exactly.
788Mutations still possible The rum still sitting in wallets today.
687Wallets have mutated Averaging 3.6 apes apiece.
76% of every mutation the rum ever allowed 2,498 of 3,286
44% of the whole fleet of 5,700 Pirate Apes 2,498 of 5,700

Both are true, and they are not in conflict — they count against different totals. Mutation burns rum, and rum ran out long before the apes did: only 3,286 apes could ever be mutated at all, so 2,414 of the fleet will stay un-mutated whatever happens. Against the rum we are 76% of the way through; against the fleet, 44%. 788 mutations remain.

Portions per visit

2,498 mutations arrived in 957 visits to the Tavern — a median of 2 apes a visit, and one pirate who mutated 41 in a single go. Bars are visits.

The bump at exactly six is a habit, not a rule — the contract has never had a batch limit. Somewhere in the old dapp, six was the number that felt right.

The first portion was poured on 19 September 2022, hours after the Sea Mutants contract went live, and the rush was over within months — but the Tavern never actually shut. Stragglers kept drinking right through 2025, the last of them on 9 June 2025. Then the website broke, and the contract sat untouched for fourteen months until 10 August 2026, when Sea Mutant #3326 proved the door was open again.

Why the supply numbers never agree. 5,700 Pirate Apes were minted and none can ever be added. The Toxic Tankard destroys the ape it mutates, and 81 have been drunk — so the contract now counts 5,619. A further three apes were sent to a burn address by their owners, which marketplaces subtract but the contract does not, giving 5,697 on OpenSea. All three figures are correct; they are simply counting different things. Apes still in living hands: 5,616.

The Tavern

Still holding rum? Pull up a stool. Burn a portion, mutate a Pirate Ape, and receive the Sea Mutant with the matching number. Rum Tankards and Rum Bottles leave your ape untouched — only the Toxic Tankard burns it.
